Happy New Year!

Well for me it’s not quite there yet, being in Northern California and all. We still have 4 hours. But 2009 is going to be a good year. I can feel it in my bones! I still feeling all animal printy, so I made these uber cute bangles and earrings. I’m wearing my Ingenue cigarette pants and the cute tied at the waist blouse from SLink in the ad – I’ve been wearing Truth’s hair for 4 days now, a new record even for me! The whole leopard print thing is really doing it for me. Anywho – here are my new releases this week. I have something else in the cooker, but I’ve need more time to work on it, perfect it, as it were. Oh and I’m plurking…sigh…another addiction.

Teleport the Dark Mouse Jewelry at Whimsical Creations. Oh HEY, I still have that store card sale going on…

Feeling a bit wild

Okay so this whole outfit came together around the hair. It’s an adorable $1L gifty from Truth. I love this hair and have been wearing it for the last two days. It’s got a great retro feel to it – leopard headband woot! The dress I bought about a week ago – a great pencil dress from Ibizarre – I didn’t even quibble or question – I just clicked and bought. I just liked the look of it. I’m always about emotion when I buy stuff in SL. If it evokes a reaction or a memory of something past, I don’t question! Yes, Yes it’s a system skirt, make your butt “0” and quit worrying about it. I wanted a kind of retro pump with a fat look to it (hey goes with the butt!), and TP’d over the ETD hoping against hope that the sale was still on! It was! I paired the whole thing with my own jewelry (the 50’s Vintage Pearl & Diamonds in Copper) and wa-lahh. I can’t decide if this is a ‘work’ look or and ‘evening’ look, or maybe a work to evening look? HA! As always, outfit creds are after the picture.

Feeling Nostalgic and Merry, Merry Christmas!

Ah I just finished wrapping presents, my back is killing me, and I’m having a much deserved glass o’ wine. And reflecting. About this time, two years ago, my descent into second life began. I had actually joined on the 17th of November, as part of an assignment for my RL company. We were trying to determine if Second Life was a place where we could hold meetings for our clients. I had read about SL in Business Week, and at the time, we were looking at ways to reduce travel cost – and I thought a immersive virtual environment might be worth investigating. I got online, got an account, and was frustrated almost immediately by the sheer breadth of all I did not know or understand about how SL operated. I chose ‘girl next door’ as my avatar starter, I looked around and ended up in Teal. I loved Teal, of course. I could not figure out how teleports or landmarks worked!! I logged off. I did not ‘return’ to SL for another month. It was Christmas day. All the ‘events’ had occurred, and everyone was examing their gifts and/or nodding off. I logged in. I was immediately frustrated that I could not ‘find’ Teal again. I wandered around, and landed at the Ivory Tower. I met a person who offered friendship. We hung out. He was a builder and taught me most of the basics. I was fascinated. During my Christmas vacation in 2006, I learned to build, explored ALOT and scored first land. About a month after that, I was hooked. I started first building houses and odd bits (I built a time machine). The first time someone bought one of my houses, I was astonished and then thrilled. I realized almost immediately that SL would not work for my business. The client was far from stable, constant griefing attacks and naked people wandering about made me realize it would never fly for my business. Of course it was too late for me though – I bought more land, expanded, made friends, became a fixture at the Ivory Tower…I’m sure you all know the drill.

I was immediately interested in shopping and fashion. I shopped relentlessly. First I just bought lindens! Then I realized that I was going to need something to support my habit and launched Whimsical Creations. And shopped more and more! My favorite shopping tips websites were Linden Lifestyles (now defunct) and Closet Crisis. I shopped constantly at Last Call. I realize today, as I sip my wine and consider taking advil for the aching back, how much has changed in SL. It is quite literally, a different place and yet still so much the same. I wonder what 2009 holds for us all – will SL make it? I just don’t know anymore – a year ago I would have scoffed at the rumors. I’m generally a conservative person who takes a wait and see approach in all things. Anywho, I’m feeling nostalgic, missing Last Call and wondering about the future.

I’d be curious to hear what others think the future holds for SL.

But regardless of what it holds – I wish everyone a very merry Christmas and the happiest of new years!

Happy Holidays! 1/2 Price Store Card Sale!!!

The holidays are here – and in between wrapping presents, I’ve been working on completing my Abstract Extravagansa set. This is the kind of thing you wear for impact! I love this set and I hope to see people grabbing it to go with their Christmas and New Year’s evening wear. The set will sell similar to way my ‘Tarnished’ sets sell. That is, in separate pieces and a full set at a great price. I’m also putting my store cards on sale for 50% off. That means that a $500L card will only cost you $250L and so forth…great time to pick up a pressie for the lady!

Here’s the next set, and here’s a teleport link the store!

Abstract Extravagance

If you’ve not been by the Vanity Universe Winter Fairy Tale, now is the time to go. There is a treasure hunt this weekend – officially starting at 11 a.m. SLT, and I’ve added my own little gifty – a pair of earrings I’m calling, Abstract Extravagance – they are set at $1L. They will be part of a set for sale very soon – if you need something over the top to wear with that ballgown, these are the earrings for you! I should warn everyone, they will NOT be easy to find. You have to look! They will ONLY be available at the fair, AND only till the end of the hunt on the 21st. This entire outfit is something I would wear in RL. Maybe for the office holiday party – if I was on the prowl. If not, I’d wear it out with my hubby and expect a bit of bowing and scraping ;-). I’d probably add a vintage bag with maybe a pin on it. Stop by my booth at the show and don’t miss the hunt – Dark Mouse gift cards are on sale at the show only – but they will work in my Taber store too!

Guard Rail Grind

And now for something completely different, as they say. Is your second life® boring? Do you need something TO DO? Ack don’t we all – all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and all that. I frequently find myself working on something for my store and completely forgetting that there are other things to do in SL. Then suddenly – I’m DREADING doing work for my store, and it no longer feels fun…Typically when this occurs, I go shopping. Or, I go watch skateboarding…the truth is I suck at it. I’m just not that great at maneuvering my avatar. This has caused no end of hilarity amongst my SL friends, who love to watch me fall off the sides of railings and such. If you’ve ever been to Bricolage, you will notice that there’s a skateboard park out in front of Electric Janes. Oh and cool skateboards and other fun stuff to play with inside made by none other than Natalie Defiant. Check it out.

succumbing to the inevitable

Okay, I’ve dithered. I’ve wandered the halls of Launa Fauna’s new sim, hopelessly waiting for a free store card to be gifted to me randomly. I sat in the new and gorgeous dressing rooms, eating bon-bons. Finally – there was a hunt. I diligently hunted and was gifted with the lovely and free skin from the new double shot line called, brisk.

I’ve succumbed to the inevitable. I LOVE these skins. For me, it’s not just about the body – for me always – it’s about the makeup. To me, Chai skins have a unique quality – the makeups are fabulous and imaginative. My skin shade has always been Nutmeg – renamed Tone 4 in the new line. My absolute favorite of all time is Antique – Freckled. The matte finish on the red lips is magnificent (I’ll do that one next time). Second favorite, is gunmetal, which I’m showing here. I own just about every makeup in the old line and was hesitant to buy the new line. Would they be REALLY any different? I think the free skin from the hunt is what convinced me. While the familiar makeups are available in the new line – they are much refined and have a deeper, richer quality and a glowy dewyness (hmm not sure if that’s a word) to the skin. The brisk I think is a remake of the old Brisque skin. I also wanted to show off my new coat from Sprawl, The Contract in Noir. What a great coat!!! I dug out my LF Leather Pants from my inventory to complete the look. Now begins the inevitable march towards owning all the skins….

over the top

I was totally jazzed to see Ana Lutetia’s challenge, as something occurred about a week ago that had me thinking along the lines of dressing up with boyz clothes…I was shopping the ETD sale, erm, AGAIN, and thought, jeez there’s nothing else I can possilbly buy! Then I spied the mens’ hair and thought, hey, why not? Okay, so it’s not my natural inclination to buy guy stuff. But I LURVED the Jared hair – and it looks fabulous on! Plus I’m always hunting for hair that shows off my ears – and this style is perfect and has lovely flexy pieces. The hair is the start of the outfit and when I found a pair of jeans by Pixeldolls in my inventory that I had purchased a while ago, well I was on my way. I also remember that in the depths of inventory – I had a pair of great boots by Gutterblood Spoonhammer that are so well done (texture to die for) that I bought them even though they were for men and are kinda (ok really) big on me! Seriously I don’t know where you can go to buy these – I couldn’t find a store inworld, so if anyone knows, let me know. I really pulled a lot of the pieces of this outfit out of my own stuff – the Brogear book strapped to my leg, the primoptic shades, the bracers – I already owned! Oh I also cheated a bit on this one ;-). I really wanted the outfit to look like I stole some gangsta’s clothes. So I wanted some jewelry that had some presense – I mean if you’re gonna go topless the jewelry better have some presence heh? So I made a necklace. I also decided that since I simply don’t ‘do’ men’s jewelry – I needed to do something special with the necklace when I was done, since it was not my usual thing. So here’s the deal – if you’re a guy (or a girl) – and you buy a gift card in my shop (comeon you need a holiday present!!!) I will give you the necklace sized for men & women for FREE! Just drop me a notecard after you buy the giftcard. My giftcards are ON SALE at the Vanity Universe sim Winter Event – so get a card on sale AND get a cool necklace. I sized the necklace on my hubbies’ av so it should fit men properly. The skin is the freebie from Chai’s great hunt – Brisk. I’m really loving this skin – and since I’m sort of in skin indecision right now – I’ve been wearing different ones each day to see what grows on me. The make up options at Chai are amazing and awesome but I already own every single skin in the old line so I’m sort of in dilemma land. The new skins are stunning, and have a deeper livelier feeling. I’m sort of not sure what to do, but I think that I’ll be sucked in soon.
