Hello all! I normally don’t post these types of things, but I feel compelled. I’m not yet using Linden Labs latest viewer, I’m still on 1.22 because several of my friends who also use MAC’s have warned me NOT to upgrade to 1.23. As I hope you know by now, I make jewelry among other things. In the current viewer I am unable to select prims that are close to the chest attachment points. This includes prims that are attached close to the neckline up to just below the ears. My personal workaround is to attempt to select the prim by highlighting it OR jumping off the pose stand for a moment. Is this a pain in the ass? Why yes, yes it is. Why do I continue to build stuff? Because I love torture. But now – there’s a new problem. A problem that could potentially affect me and EVERY OTHER jeweler in SL. We all work with small sculpted and tiny or ‘tortured’ prims. Apparently the latest viewer will not show these prims, so if a customer attaches the necklace – the smallest prims will not appear correctly. LL does not feel this is an urgent matter and that it does not affect us. Read and vote on the JIRA here Read the comments by the Lindens, and consider – are jewelers in Second life being unreasonable for asking that something that has worked since sculpties were introduced remain as is? I don’t think so – IMHO – this is just ridiculous. Read the comments made by the Lindens (the griefing comment is especially amusing). This is not important to them. I’m stunned, astonished and disapointed. I wish there was something I could do. But all I can do is write this post and ask you to vote. Is this a big deal? I really don’t know – seems like it is to me.

Rant.

You know, I’m sitting here in my wee cafe to be (yes, yes, I’m putting in a little ‘hanging out area’ in the store as I move forward in the rebuilding of the darn thing). I spend a lot of time in SL obviously. I build, I hang out with friends, I change clothes, I blog. I am addicted to SL, I love it. But today is one of those days that just frustrates the hell outta me. First off. I’m changing my clothes (HA! first time in three days) and I settle on an all black ensemble (yes, I am and always will be a San Franciscan at heart), because it’s easy, and I’m not going to be blogging anything, I’m just building. I pull out my skirt folder, and try my old cake mini skirt. Yes, I love it. However the prim part is still tinted grey cause of an old SL bug, and when I UNTINT it, it goes wierd in my viewer – the back prim goes light, the front stays dark. Okay, can’t wear it. As I’m sitting here, I think, hmmm maybe I’ll add those springy flowers to the back yard that I got a ways back. Go to look for my landscape folder. It’s gone. Damn – did I delete it? Ack maybe I think. Damn was there anything I truly loved in it? Probably. But it’s so easy to accidentally grab and drag a folder in our inventories without realizing it. Okay back to the skirt folder, I can buy more landscaping. hmmm maybe my Pixel Dolls long velvet skirt. Then I realize, some of my skirts are missing. Oh the folders are there. Like my long blue Skin Flicks skirt. (yes, I love long swingy skirts). Folder is there, skirt gone. Then I start looking around. I logged out with 14K inventory items and now I have 13,400. This is just wrong. I guess I need to get second inventory, because I CANNOT rely on LL to run SL properly and protect my stuff. I KNOW THIS. But it doesn’t make it any better, being realistic and pragmatic. I just want my stuff. I could file a ticket, but why bother we all KNOW what they will tell me to do. There are other things. I build. I have a business. I am encouraged by LL to do these things (Your world. Your imagination) but I cannot select prims near the chest area using the regular client. This bug has been around FOREVER now. If you build jewelry OR hair for that matter, choosing a prim near the neck is a pain in the ass. These small annoyances are just that. Small annoyances…I mean it’s not like my hair is in my ass. Oh wait. It could be. Rant over. I feel better now.

A day of shopping and frustration

I was drawn to Tableau the other day by a new release on the feeds by Church of Luxe. I did get the coolest outfit there and will no doubt show it off shortly, but while there, I also picked up the most adorable top at Nylon Outfitters. This is the type of outfit I would wear in RL for a day of shopping. I ALSO picked up the cutest hair eveh from Curio. You know I never noticed it before at the Curio main store, I think because I’m always so distracted by the skins. So here’s my Saturday outfit. Maybe a bit on the cuteness overload. Goes great with my new ‘Trinity’ make-up from Chai. OMG – I bought three new skins at Chai, and while standing there drooling over my newness won another one because there’s a random giftcard generator at Chai. YAY!

OH! I have this thing I need to bitch about. And well – I’s got a blog, so what the hell. The SL viewer right now – if you’re a designer, trying to do stuff, is a pain in the ass. I’m using the regular viewer to build – you can’t TAKE pictures because hair disapears on zooming in OR the jewelry disapears. I switch to the release candidate viewer to take pictures – FROM A distance – you can’t build jewelry in the release candidate because you CAN’T select prims that are situated near or around the chest attachment point. It also bitmaps the hair textures in my photos. I’m using the Nicholaz client Eye Candy EC-h to take close up photos so the hair doesna look all jagged..sometimes. And even though I think the Nicholaz viewer is the best, most stable viewer I’ve ever used, it really needs an update (please nicholaz, please update it…), because objects take forever to rez. This is completely ridiculous – LL needs to get on this. I’m losing track of what client/viewer I’m supposed to use for what. If the tools for content creators are completely borked (and believe me, there are other little quibbles that I just won’t bother to mention) then how can we CREATE CONTENT! Okay – I’m done beating the dead horse. I know that anything I’ve said has been said before. Rant over.

Cannot complete pending attachment

Wow – how much longer must I wait to complete pending attachment! This is just crazy. You know I love SL™ as much as the next person, maybe more. I dunno, I’m addicted. So much so that I continue to work on my computer that’s not making the grade. BUT WTF! The series of blogs over the last few days have been frightening. I work in public relations and marketing. The blog at SL™ is a disaster. Using the blog as a help wanted advertising in the middle of a technical meltdown, shortly after announcing a reduction in pricing, along with chirpy ‘how to’ videos. I’m frankly astonished. Hey – I’m working on these new glasses. I would LOVE to show them to you, but I cannot complete pending attachment.

What will SL look like to you?

I was using the 18.3.5 client for the longest time, but the lag had become almost intolerable, so I decided to bite the bullet and do the upgrade to 19. I had also been using the Nicolas client, but it seemed to grow increasingly weird with the upgrades to SL, so I stopped using it.

Of course, as most people have discovered, 19 was no picnic. I held onto my 18.3.5 client, and started this random game of flipping back and forth between the two. Anyone else do this?

So, tonite I was buzzing around SL. I decided to try the release candidate (the current experimental client that will ‘become’ the official version of the SL client. Version 19.1.3 is the release candidate and I guess it incorporates features of Windlight. After uploading I took a deep breath and logged into SL. Hey – this is not too bad I thought. Of course I was at 700 meters in my open air work studio. Not too much to render. Last couple of times I had tried the windlight client, I couldn’t move and crashed immediately. So this was like wow – I can use windlight. Schemes of redoing all my photo boards start going through my head – better pictures -woot! I open up the preferences to look at where I’m at. But it’s changed. I get one choice – graphics. I learn it’s ‘preset’ to optimal levels for my computer. I am at the lowest settings of everything. But hey I can MOVE!

I suddenly realize what is happening. My computer which was pretty cool 2 years ago, cannot handle the SL client anymore – my graphic card sucks. When the new update is forced, I may not even be able to log in. I need a super duper new computer.

But. That’s not in the budget for my family. We’re hit as hard by the recession in the US as any middle class family living here. Then I think, wait, not everyone in SL can afford a super duper wow wee computer that can handle the SL client. Who exactly is playing SL anyway? How can they afford a computer to handle this awesomely huge and computer life sucking client? Hmmmm. If they keep adding all these bells and whistles and features, I will eventually get to the point where I can’t feed my addiction (hey – it IS an addiction) and have to stop playing. Or suck it up and get a new computer. I wonder how many other players are starting to see this? The client is being upgraded, but soon alot of people won’t be able to run it.

I’ve made it!

Sooooo, I’m flying around the Ivory Tower Sandbox (my second home) and what do I come across LMAO but a person trying to resell one of the freebies from my shop!  After a moment of stunned disbelief (OMG), then rage (5 stages of grief anyone), I’m overcome by this feeling of…wait for it…pride.  Wow someone thought my stuff was good enough to steal! I will of course be giving this away for free (only the chair was originally free) the whole lovely french country dining set, at my store in Taber.  It’s also available from NCI and at the Stillman’s Bazaar next to the Ivory Tower!!!
